Some of my pieces begin with a line or swirl or two that grow into a pleasing design. Cosmic Chaos and Cosmic Chaos II are examples of such an onset. Some begin as drawings of actual beings, landscapes, etc., and end up getting abstracted along the way. Another avenue to an abstract design: I can look at a group of beautifully glazed tiles in a composition that no longer works for me. At such a point, I rearrange the tiles into a more interesting design.
